Exedy OEM Flywheel WRX MY06-17
The flywheel provides the friction surface for the clutch to transfer power from the engine to the transmission. It also provides the rotational inertia required to smooth the engine power pulses and dampen the torsional vibrations.
The flywheel should always be replaced or resurfaced when changing the clutch. Deep surface cracking or severe heat spotting may necessitate replacement over resurfacing. Additionally, the flywheel includes the ring gear used by the starter motor to rotate the engine. A damaged ring gear may result in starter issues.
